Australia Aims To Fill 200 000 Migrant Places

While smaller sections of the migrant population will be catered for with 565 places open to special eligibility migrants, which include former permanent residents who have maintained close business, cultural or personal ties with Australia and at least 3,485 permanent child visa places will be available outside the managed Migration Programme.

Whilst the overall size and composition of the programme remains the same as last year there are changes in how the programme will be managed, affecting the child category visa and Orphan relative visas.

Child category visas, excluding Orphan Relative, will no longer be counted under the managed Migration Programme. ‘This is in response to the Government’s commitment to reform and improve the processes relating to inter country adoption,’ said a spokesman for the Department of Immigration and Border Control (DIBP)

The spokesman added that the child category will continue to be carefully monitored while it transitions to a fully demand driven model by the 2019/2020 financial year.

Orphan Relative visas will now form part of the Other Family category within the Migration Programme with 400 places allocated to Orphan Relative visas.

A full breakdown of the figures show that in the skilled stream is very exciting for educated and experienced South African migrants as there will be 48,250 employer sponsored visas available, 43,990 skilled independent visas and 28,850 state and territory nominated visas.

Businessmen and entrepreneurs are also welcomed into the fold with 7,260 business innovation and investment visas available to foreign citizens.

In the family visa stream there will be 47,825 partner visas, 8,675 parent visas and 900 other family visas of which 400 will be orphan relative visas. There will also be 565 special eligibility stream visas.
