If you want a great life, an awesome job and get paid more for it you should consider immigrating to Australia or Canada! Expats rated both countries within the top 6 best countries to live and work in and the expats who participated in the HSBC survey said they were richer too.
The respected and trusted HSBC's annual Expat Explorer Survey Report showed that 45 per cent of expats said their existing job paid more internationally and 28 per cent changed locations for a promotion.
While Singapore ranked highest on the reports rankings both Canada and Australia (firm favourites among South African immigrants and migrants) scored Top Six positions with Canada in 4th spot and Australia in 6th position – surprisingly beating squeaky clean Switzerland which ranked only eighth, with the high cost of raising children and difficulty making friends going against it.
"Singapore packs everything a budding expat could want into one of the world's smallest territories," HSBC said.
Sweden, one of the world's most gender-equal countries, got top billing for family, while New Zealand, Spain and Taiwan led the way in the experience category.
More than half the expats in Australia come from the UK and, overall, most come from the European Union, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA. At work, most say the culture, levels of stress and other important factors are similar to those they left behind, though their salaries are higher at an average USD $172,350.
“What draws them from the other side of the world is the quality of life (51 per cent) and almost half have invested in property. Far more expats in Australia have property here than the average expat globally (66 per cent vs 44 per cent),” states the report.
