Overview of what is taking place
As an Accountant, if you have been moving back and forth with your decision on moving to Australia, there is no time to waste. As from 1 July 2014, Accountants are moving off the Skilled Occupations List and will then only be open for State Sponsorship.
What does this mean?
This means that from 1 July 2014, Accountants would need to live and work in a particular state for 2 years when entering Australia. They would only then have the freedom to move around and reside anywhere after this period.
Before, accounting occupations were listed on the SOL list under Scheduel 1. This was a federal list that allowed an accountant moving to Australia to settle anywhere. On the 1st of July this is changing and the accounting occupation is being demoted to Schedule 2.
How do I prevent this from affecting me?
If you apply now, there is still a relatively small window to apply and get your application in to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, before 1 July 2014.
