What is Australia’s SkillSelect work visa process??

If you are planning on spreading your wings to Australia you might have heard about their SkillSelect work visa programme.

The system allows Australian employers to find skilled foreign workers and based on the outcome of your negotiations with the employer they will then decide to sponsor and employ you – at which point your visa application process is given a jump in the right direction.

Australian Skilled Occupation List 2015 – 2016 Published

SkillSelect is an online service employed by Australia to manage its skilled migration programme. It helps to ensure that the skilled migration programme is based on Australia's economic needs. Through this site employers are able to find suitably qualified candidates for a variety of vacancies which are not being filled by the n workforce

The process also addresses regional skill shortages.   It happens that in certain rural regions of Australia skilled workers are desperately needed and this system directs such workers to employers as the system sifts through applications looking for those who meet the employers’ criteria while the applicant also indicated that they would be willing to work and live in regional Australia.

Start by submitting an Expression of Interest

Skilled migrants interested in Australia’s points based skilled migration or business investment and innovation visa programmes will need to submit an EOI and receive an invitation in order to lodge a visa application.

Your application will be considered based on the outcome of the information you provide and will include things like:

  • basic personal information
  • nominated occupation
  • work experience
  • study and education
  • level of English skills
  • details of a skills assessment, related to your nominated occupation
  • business and investment experience.

Once the skilled worker or business person has completed their EOI their information is kept on the SkillSelect online porthole where Australian employers or state and territory governments can find the best candidate to sponsor for the job.  Or the applicant might be invited by the Australian Government to lodge a visa application.
