The Significant Benefit Work Permit (SBWP) is available to workers whose employment in Canada will offer a significant benefit. The SBWP is a program designed to speed up the employment permits due to the delays of a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), in the cultural, economic and health interests.
To be eligible for the SBWP a candidate must meet specific considerations regarding their benefit to Canada. Evidence will need to be provided to substantiate your profession, rewards or patents, excellence network and leadership position. Three major consideration factors are your economic, social and cultural benefits in Canada.
Economic benefits would prevent disruption of employment, advance Canadian industries through expansion or innovation and provide economic stimulus. Social benefits include the ability to address social threats to residents, strengthening inclusivity in communities and developing products to improve environmental matters. Cultural benefits include the applicant being able to judge the work of others through a peer review, contributions to their fields and artistic and cultural endeavours.
Areas that are eligible for the Significant Benefit Work Permit include:
- Intra-Company Transferees: Must be in an executive, senior managerial or specialized knowledge role.
- Television and Film Production Workers: Workers in the main role that can help attract investment to Canada and create economic benefits.
- Entrepreneurs and Self-Employed Workers: Those looking to start a business and promote economic, social and cultural benefits in their activities.
- Emergency Repair Personnel: Repairs to industrial or commercial equipment to prevent the disruption of employment.
