Canada has a multiculturalism policy which is enhanced through the welcoming of international students. Three objectives have been discussed by the federal government to ease the process of international students coming into Canada and advancing their academic strengths and hopefully staying in the country.
Attracting International Students
Studying in Canada has many benefits, the IRCC has committed to exploring the expansion of the Student Direct Stream (SDS) to Asia, Africa and French-speaking countries. The IRCC has emphasised the reason for refusals from Francophone African students and hopes to ease this process. An investigation has been emphasised on the best ways to attract international students through the promotion of transition to permanent residency for international students depending on skills, experience and language levels.
Equity within the international student program
The International Student Program (ISP) continues to be reviewed to ensure practices of equity through demographic challenges. The IRCC established a Disaggregated Data and Analytics Framework (DDAF) to understand relationships and demographic challenges. The DDAF is to review the selection process for international students and evaluate their potential value. Beyond the administration of understanding the students and different demographic needs, Canada aims to improve services and communications for the students.
Improving communication services for international students
In the recent hiring of 1250 new processing staff as of 2022, Canada aims to improve the backlog in administration. This is a commitment to improve the data collection and offer real-time processing through Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs).
