The Canadian territory of British Columbia has followed suit with other Canadian territories and states and have prioritized visa applications from foreign IT experts in a bid to attract those skills to the territory.
British Columbia (BC) recently began conducting tech-only immigration draws through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). This move is aimed at ensuring the territory’s future growth and innovation in this fast paced industry.
According to a statement by Canada Immigration and Citizenship the BC PNP is one of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). Through these programs, provinces can nominate newcomers who can settle into the local labour market.
The BC PNP has conducted six tech-only draws since May.
Media reports earlier this year suggested that British Columbia’s technology sector, which was already growing at an increasingly fast pace, has begun to grow even faster. Interest in Canada as an economically stable and politically calm country has grown as international incidents have sparked uncertainty for many. South Africans are also considering their future options with continued local political corruption scandals and ever increasing crime stats.
At this time, says Canada Immigration, British Columbia has not specified the number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) that will be issued to candidates but encourages interested would-be migrants to register and complete an application profile in British Columbia’s unique Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). Only those registered will be considered for Invitation to Apply.
Within the BC PNP categories are established for skilled workers, international graduates, and entry level and semi-skilled workers. A portion of ITAs are issued under the British Columbia Express Entry stream, with the remaining invitations issued under the ‘base’ Skills Immigration (SI) stream.
Consult an immigration consultant accredited with Canada Immigration and Citizenship before you complete your profile on the British Columbia’s unique Skills Immigration Registration System. Without the proper guidance it can be a complicated process. Using a knowledgeable immigration consultant is likely to give your application the competitive advantage it needs to be successful.
