Canada outshines most – including their Southern neighbour

Looking for a peaceful environment to live, do business or raise your family? Then seriously consider Canada. A new report has highlighted Canada’s track record of safety and peace which has remained intact for at least the second year running.

Canada Outshines Most – Including Their Southern Neighbour

What’s more is that Canada’s standing as a safe and secure country is likely to improve as their neighbour south of the border deals with political uncertainty after the election of President Trump. The USA’s peace-rating has dropped by a staggering10 places from last year’s 103rd position to 114th position this year. The USA is now considered less peaceful than Rwanda (113).

The GPI report for 2017 researched by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) placed Canada has the second-highest ranking of any non-European country and again ranked in eight position overall with Iceland taking top honours for the second years. South Africa placed 123rd out of 155 countries.

Canada is set to improve their ranking on the Global Peace Index (GPI) even further with continued efforts by their government to attract foreign talent and investment. And it seems that these attractive changes and improvements will largely be the result of Canada’s progressive immigration policy.

Canada ranked eighth globally across a range of peace-related indicators, with an overall ‘very high’ state of peace. Canada’s ‘violence containment costs’, at just two percent of GDP, were the joint-lowest in the world. In addition, the report concludes that Canada has the attitudes, institutions, and structures that create and sustain a peaceful society.

Overall the report found that the world is more peaceful than last year but less peaceful than it was 10 years ago.
