This comes after the recent attacks and killings of foreign shop owners trading in the busy streets of this Johannesburg suburb. Four people were killed and another 153 were arrested. While 11 foreign nationals and shop owners were arrested on a variety of charges.
Department of Home Affairs spokesman Mayihlome Tshwete said, "We will investigate allegations that some of the foreigners have entered South Africa illegally."
ANC secretary-general Gwede Manthashe urged the community to re-instate street communities when, earlier this month he spoke to the press in Doornkop, Soweto.
