How Forestry Technicians can apply for a Critical Skills Visa and Register with the appropriate Professional Council Body!

Applying for a Critical Skills Visa can be a quite laborious task and at the same time very confusing. This often leads to a delay in collecting the necessary documentation or your Critical Skills Visa being rejected due to lack of documents. The Critical Skills Visa requires no experience but accredited professional bodies often require applicants to have at least 3 years work experience when applying for membership.

How to register with the professional accredited body
If you hold a B.Sc in Forestry, then the following requirements will be applicable to you:
• 3 years work experience after obtaining qualification
If you hold a M.Sc in Forestry, then the following requirements will be applicable to you:
• 2 years work experience after obtaining qualification
If you hold a PhD in Forestry, then the following requirements will be applicable to you:
• 1 years work experience after obtaining qualification
N.B!!!! If an applicant was employed full-time, work experience gained while studying part-time for a recognised M.Tech./M.Sc. degree, may be taken into consideration.

What else would I need to complete?
All foreign qualifications must be assessed by SAQA to see whether your qualifications are on par with South African standards. Failure to complete this task will lead to a refusal.
Where Should I submit my application?
All first time applications should be lodged in your home country. No applications will be accepted in South Africa if you hold a tourist visa or medical visa. Applicants who hold a temporary long stay visa in South Africa may apply for a change of status if they qualify for the Critical Skills.
What if I have a national diploma in forestry technician?
Unfortunately the requirements for successfully registering as a member require a minimum B.Sc or a B-tech.
When can I apply for Permanent Residency?
If you can prove more than 5 years relevant work experience, then you can jointly submit an application for Permanent Residency and Critical Skills. If you however, have 3 years work experience prior to applying for the Critical Skills Visa then after completing 2 may you become eligible to apply for Permanent Residency.
