How To Apply For Your South African Police Clearance Certificate


When applying for a police clearance certificate in South Africa the applicant is required to provide a full set of fingerprints preferably done at the nearest local police station. Your fingerprints will be taken then sent to Pretoria to be analyzed and once this has been completed your police clearance certificate will be issued which reflects if any criminal offences have been recorded. The following details are required when completing the application form;

• Applicants full name and surname

• Date of birth

• Identity number or passport number

• Copy of your identity document or passport

N.B!!!Please note that it is compulsory to show proof of Identity to the police officer assisting you.

All applicants are required to provide their mobile number on the application form to confirm that your application has been received and to sms your unique reference number for follows up.

This service is rendered at R94,00 per application payable by bank guaranteed cheque, banker’s draft or electronic payment into the South African Police Service’s account.

In the case of an electronic payment, the initials and surname of the applicant must be indicated as the reference. The letters PCC must be added as reference, which will indicate that the payment is for a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC). An applicant who prefers to make an electronic payment abroad, may approach any bank which can make a telegraphic transfer and request that the relevant fees be paid into the above bank account. Proof of payment must be sent to this office before the processing of the application will take place.

On completion, the certificate will be mailed to the applicant by post. Individuals abroad are responsible for their own postage. Applicants may arrange for the certificate to be collected by a courier service at their own expense. A Police Clearance Certificate can be reissued within six months of the original application, yet an additional cost of R59,00 will be required. After six months of the date of the original application, a new application must be submitted.

The processing times are roughly 14 working days before your police clearance certificate is issued to you. This PPC is inluded with your South African temporary residence visa when submitting to the Department of Home Affairs.
