How To Certify A Document

When applying for a specific South African Visa, the Department of Home Affairs and South African Embassies often requests certain documents to be certified as a true copy of the original.

More than often the Department of Home Affairs and South African Embassies refuse to accept applications that include any copied documents that are not certified.

Which documents should be certified?

• Passport

• Birth Certificate

• Qualifications

• Bank Statements

A rule of thumb is to always try and certify any documents which are copies instead of the original.

Where can I certify my documents?

• Lawyers or notary public (Who are members of a recognised professional governing body)

• Actuaries or accountants (Who are members of a recognised professional governing body)

• Members of the judiciary

• Directors, managers or company secretaries of a bank or regulated financial services business.

• South African Police

What do I need to certify a document?

• Must provide the original

Documents will not be certified if the original documents are not produced.
