Medical Permit South Africa
Any foreigner who intends to seek medical treatment in South Africa from a medical institution for more than 3 months, needs to apply for the medical permit. The medical permit allows foreigners to stay in South Africa temporarily whilst undergoing treatment at their preferred medical institution.
A medical permit would only be approved if the foreigner needs to undergo treatment from a private hospital, public hospital, rehabilitation centres and detox clinics.
What are the requirements?
• A letter stating your reason for treatment from an authorized medical institution.
• An itinerary letter showing all particulars of appointments in South Africa.
• A letter from the institution or person which will be responsible for all expenses including hospital fees.
If your medical aid does not cover you in South Africa, then an alternate proof of insurance should be provided. The medical permit is renewable and the validity period is usually up to 6 months.
