Quota Permit & Exceptional Skills Permit to be replaced by Critical Skills Visa
As we know the Department of Home Affairs has announced recently that new immigration legislation will be implemented this year. This blog is relevant to all holders of the Quota work Permit South Africa and Exceptional Skills Permit Holders as we discuss the way forward here on.
The Department of Home Affairs has decided to remove the Quota Permit and Exceptional Skills Permit which means this will no longer be available to any foreign nationals wishing to either renew or any first time applicants. The Quota Permit and Exceptional Skills Permit will be replaced by the Critical Skills Permit.
If you’re a current holder of a Quota Permit or Exceptional Skills Permit, then it will remain valid until it expires and applicants would need to make a plan to apply for an applicable work permit.
It’s a very grey area as to whether you would qualify for a Critical Skills Visa as the Department of Home Affairs still needs to announce the requirements, so it maybe that in future your profession might not qualify for the Critical Skills Visa.
Another Alternative option for those who won’t qualify for the Critical Skills Visa would be to apply for the General Work Permit to stay legally in the Country.
