Retire in South Africa
Many foreigners flock to South Africa annually, to work, visit, open a business, or retire. Today we focus on the Retirement Permit.
Did you know you can retire in South Africa at any age and that all you need to show is proof of steady income amounting to R20,000 per month? The amount can be made up of pensions, cash, shares, rental income or any other form of passive income. This is per person, and not per couple.
If you are just using pensions to make up the R20,000 you can apply for a Retirement Permit followed by Permanent Residency immediately. If your income is made up of various sources, you can apply for a Retirement Permit and after 4 years you will qualify for the Permanent Residency. Both are good routes to Permanent Residency.
The Retirement Permit is a great option for people who have reached retirement age and want to move to sunny South Africa, or anyone/ any age who can show the required monthly income. For some countries (e.g UK, USA) this is easier to prove due to the exchange rate!
Of course, retirement means you can’t work in South Africa, but once you’ve got Permanent Residency (should you choose to go for it) you can work here or open a business if you wish.
