Rumours about DZP Permit
A question that is brought to mind, time and time again by every Zimbabwean currently holding a DZP; Will the Department of Home Affairs renew my DZP permit or What is the future for DZP holders? This question poses unrest and uncertainty in the minds of DZP holders as Home Affairs has mixed emotions and remains silent throughout this period and making matters worse, by drafting a new set of immigration laws/regulations for 2014.
We are not sure whether the Department of Home Affairs has reached a decision with these permits but as for now it remains a grey area for everybody. Rumours has been making rounds that it will be renewed and that Home Affairs are discussing a way forward to roll a 2nd phase of the DZP permit. The means to renewing a permit would be as follows; applicants need to show proof that they are currently working/studying or running a business successfully here in South Africa in order to get your 2nd phase approved.
As the heading of this blog is self explanatory, we can only speculate for now as to how the Department of Home Affairs will move forward. As a immigration consultant, I have assisted many applicants switch from the DZP to General Work Permits, Quota Permits, Exceptional Skills including Life/Spousal Partner visas. In my experience many Zimbabweans are afraid to switch as they tend to think that they will be arrested or sent back to Zimbabwe. The good news is that if your DZP is valid, then you are still legal and have the right to change your status in South Africa.
