What is a letter of Undertaking?
A letter of undertaking is an agreement or contract between 2 parties that outlines specific work activities being completed in a certain time frame. In this case work activities would refer to handing over certain documents to the Department of Home Affairs in a certain time frame at the time of submitting your application.
Although certain documents are omitted from the application, a letter of undertaking is replaced with the missing documents, stating that it would be handed over to the Department of Home Affairs as soon as the applicant has received it. The letter of undertaking applies to all permits such as the Life/Spousal Visa, General Work Permit, Quota Permit, Exceptional Skills Visa, Relatives Visa and Intra-company Visa but too name a few.
So if your permit is about to expire and your 80 % complete with your application, keep in mind you can insert a letter of undertaking for certain documents and the Department of Home Affairs will accept it.
