The Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is a comprehensive data protection legislation that requires businesses and organisations to deal with the collection and processing of personal information in accordance with specific principles, policies, and conditions.
POPIA addresses your constitutional right to privacy as well as your right to access information. POPIA was signed into law by our President on July 1, 2020, with an effective date of July 1, 2021, and much work has been done behind the scenes to meet this deadline.
